Igor Cassina, a former Italian gymnast, distinguished himself as an Olympic champion on the horizontal bar. In 1991, he won the Italian Junior Championship, and in 1994, he became senior national champion on the horizontal bar, becoming the first junior gymnast to claim the all-around title. In 1999, he competed at the World Championships in Tianjin, and in 2000, he represented Italy at the XXVII Olympic Games in Sydney.
In 2001, he placed fourth in the horizontal bar competition at the World Championships in Ghent, and the following year, at the European Championships in Patras, he won a bronze medal. His rise continued in 2003, when he earned a silver medal at the World Championships in Anaheim.
However, the most memorable moment of his career came on August 23, 2004, when he won the gold medal on the horizontal bar at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Igor Cassina became the first Italian to achieve this feat, helping bring Italy’s total number of Olympic medals to 500. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he reached the horizontal bar final, finishing in fourth place.
